The proverbial ink on my recent post about Southern political buffoonery was hardly dry when the Free Times, Columbia’s alternative weekly newspaper, published a story citing a perfect example. It seems the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (better known as the unemployment office) recently announced that it was laying off 75 workers and cutting back services in 17 of its state offices. So? you ask. Well, as that news broke, agency officials were attending a work retreat at a beach resort and being accused of hiking their salaries while giving the ax to their front line workers.
I love this place.
